Social Connection

Loneliness and social isolation have been shown to impact health as much as smoking 15 cigarettes per day. The Increasing Social Connections handout takes a cognitive behavioral approach to encourage patients to examine their own barriers to increasing social connection, one of the only strategies shown to be effective in reducing social isolation and loneliness. In addition, the handout offers tips on how to broaden existing social networks and deepen connections with others.
